Welcome
Turning 62
Hmm… yes, sixty-two.
I remember, quite clearly, being ten years old and talking with friends and family about what the world would be like by the time I reached this age. How many of us did that back in the 1970s? I know I did.
Back then, sixty-two felt impossibly far away. Adults would tell us, “Don’t wish your life away it’ll get here faster than you think.”
Turns out, they weren’t wrong. Not even a little.
As of the moment I’m writing this, I’m not technically sixty-two yet that’s still two short months away. And of course, this year isn’t a leap year (LOL), so no bonus day for me.
Looking back, fifty of those years seem to have flown by at record speed. At ten, it felt like an eternity. Now? Blink and you miss it.
My life took a very different path than the one I imagined and honestly, not the one I wanted either. But here I am. If I can claim any victory at all, it’s this: I’m still here. It’s not ideal, but it’s not entirely bad either.
Why This Blog Exists
The purpose of this blog is simple. This is my space to write, to think out loud, and yes, to rant when I need to.
Here’s what you can expect from Kevin’s Corner:
- A place to write openly about my daily life, past and present
- Rants when the day (or the world) calls for it
- Long-form writing not sound bites, not 240-character posts
- Honest opinions, whether popular or not
- Periods of silence followed by days with far too much to say
- No obligation for you to agree or even to stay
If what I write bothers you, feel free to move on. I’m not asking for approval, and I’m certainly not asking permission.
Let me clear something up right now:
Yes, I know life isn’t fair. I understand no one promised me a rose garden. But at least with roses, you know there are thorns and you learn how to avoid them so you don’t bleed.
I just never expected my life to feel like a pinball machine.
January 31
is a day of remembrance for me.
On this day in 1926, my late father was born. So to you, Dad happy heavenly birthday. Today, you would have been 100 years old. (Wow.)
At what point do we stop counting birthdays for the people we’ve lost? Or do we keep counting because, after all, we’re still here?
So, What Is Kevin’s Corner About?
If it hasn’t already been obvious this blog is about me.
- It’s about my life: The past, the present, and whatever future I still have ahead
- Strong opinions especially about current events and politics
- Money (or the lack thereof)
- Aging, health, and navigating life as a senior
- The younger generations and where this country seems to be headed
- (I’d much rather be wrong than right on that one)
- The cost of living in the United States especially here in Michigan
- Housing, neighbors, and whatever else happens to cross my mind
- Some posts will be deeply personal.
- Some will be very adult in nature so please be of legal age in your jurisdiction.
- No, I won’t be posting questionable pornography.
- Yes, I will be honest.
I’ll close this first entry here for now.
Thanks for reading… or not. Either way, this is where I’ll be.
