A New Push to use Plastic?
Ever notice how there’s always some kind of push gentle or not for us to fall in line with something?
People said it during COVID. Some meant it, some exaggerated it, but the underlying feeling? Not exactly new.
And here we are again.
Now the latest rumor floating out of Washington is that Trump’s signature could end up on the $1 bill.
Let that sink in for a second.
And of course, because reality apparently isn’t strange enough anymore, there’s also chatter about putting his mug shot on currency. That part I’m calling what it is—fantasy. No way that lands on a $1 bill. If anything, you know it’d be on something bigger. Ego doesn’t do singles.
But here’s where it gets interesting…
What if this kind of thing isn’t just about currency but about nudging behavior?
Because let’s be honest: most of us barely use cash anymore. Tap, swipe, done. Cards, phones, watches whatever’s fastest. Cash is starting to feel like that random sock in the drawer you keep “just in case.”
So imagine giving people one more reason to avoid it.
You don’t even have to force anything. You just make cash a little less appealing, a little more… loaded. And suddenly people choose digital on their own.
Smart? Maybe.
Subtle? Not really.
Effective? Probably.
As for me? I’m already there. I don’t carry cash, I don’t need it, and I definitely don’t need politics printed on it.
Now if we’re talking about a real mug shot… full frame, bars in the foreground, the whole production? I might actually keep a dollar just for the novelty.
Otherwise, I’ll stick with my card and keep it moving.
